This year’s first exhibition will feature work of the Gallery’s new artist Fiona Humphrey.
Fiona is a printmaker, an elected member of the Leicester Society of Artists and a member of the Printmakers Council. An award- winning printmaker, her work is exhibited regularly and held in private collections across the world.
Exploring the nature of the self and how individuals relate to the physical world about them, Fiona revisits those quiet moments when we are perhaps most ourselves, seeking quiet and space, in time and place.
Creating linocuts using bold graphic carving and loose gestural mark-making, the strong patterns and subtle tones add depths and tension as they work both with and against each other in her semi-abstract minimalist compositions.
Texture and tone are informed and inspired by our eroded and repaired surroundings. Fiona is drawn to patterns and incidental marks, finding inspiration in light and shadow, repairs, industrial structures and simple lines of erosion.
