Titan Awakening is a collection of work that explores the impact of man-made structure within the natural environment, but it is also an observation of a personal journey. Told through the creation of giant monoliths that represent the adventure in discovery and mystery, they act as a metaphor for life and the confrontation of the unknown.
The collection has been made with an energetic physical process, and has adopted a minimal abstract approach to the composition, allowing for personal contemplation and reflection within the construction.
Inspired by Brutalist architecture of the Cold War era that has been left decaying and silent, the work employs a variety of mixed-media materials and harsh, transforming substances to create a soft, sensual feel to the surface, making the work sculptural and giving the appearance of found relics.
Mark Charlton is a Brighton-based artist who produces mixed media abstract paintings and prints.
Titan Awakening marks his first solo exhibition at Arundel Contemporary.
