MOORS AND EDGES
Steep gritstone edges look down onto deep sweeping valleys. Patches of tree belt, stone walls and hedges, fragment the land. Ancient rock formations and abandoned mill stones are scattered across the vast open moorland. The Eastern Moors of The Peak District, the landscape that has informed and inspired this new body of work.
The starting point for my practice is often drawing and mark-making. Through this process, I travel beyond objective observation, towards my own personal interpretation of the landscape. These drawings, then form the framework and reference material for my work to develop further, into both print and ceramics. These areas of my practice are closely related, and working with one, inevitably leads to the other.
