SEASONS
We are delighted to welcome back Jitka Palmer, ceramist, sculptor and painter.
The exhibition showcases her latest work made specifically for the current solo show, including a set of 12 small bowls inspired by a musical interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s piano pieces “Seasons.” According to the artist, ”it was a fascinating exercise in comparing the views of shared passion with a great composer”.
”I feel very lucky to be able to live in a part of the world where the seasons are changing. I like all seasons, but lately Autumn is probably my favourite.
I love the colours, smells and sounds that each season brings. I enjoy watching different activities that people do in different seasons. I am the proud owner of an orchard in the Czech Republic and I share an allotment in Bristol. I periodically experience the pleasure of growing and picking my own apples, plums, pears and cherries. There is nothing like holding a glowing home grown red apple in my hand. My other passion is open air swimming in all seasons. I swim in the sea, lakes, rivers and brooks. Even in the middle of Bristol, there is an open air swimming club, in a flooded disused quarry, that I am a member of. Walking in the woods, across the meadows and fields is wonderful in any season. I sketch people, trees and landscape and they help me to capture what I like and later transform it to my paintings, vessels and sculptures. It is a wonderful way to be reminded of the simple yet important pleasures of life.”
