DEBRA SWEENEYThis year’s series of exhibitions opens with Debra Sweeney’s new collection of breathtaking landscapes. Her compositions are broad, subtle, calm and contemplative. They convey the beauty and the powerful presence of nature, as well as the sense of harmony and peace which nature provides when we seek refuge in it.
”The coastline of Southern England is a constant source of inspiration and wonderment. These pieces are from charcoal sketches that I did on a blustery and well needed walk just out of lockdown to Old Harry Rocks near Swanage in Dorset. The stacks are 65 million year old rocks which stand tall and proud, their chalk mass shining bright on even the dimmest of days. They are a testimony to an endurance of spirit that reflects our world’s determination and courage in this current crisis.”
