Overview

Louise McNiff was born in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, in 1966.
After an Art Foundation Course, at Chesterfield College, Louise studied Fine Art, at the University of Central Lancashire, Preston, graduating in 1989. A Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Art and Design) followed, at John Moores University, Liverpool.
Louise has worked, part-time, as Technician and Teacher, in the Art Department of a large secondary school, for many years.
She began to dedicate more time to her own practice in 2015, coinciding with a move back to the town of Dronfield, in Derbyshire, where she had grown up. Living close to the Peak District, Louise found that the surrounding landscape began to provide a constant source of inspiration for her work. She now produces prints, mostly monoprint and screen print, and slab built, stoneware ceramics, in her home studio.
”Vast open moorland. Steep rocky edges look down onto deep sweeping valleys. Dark patches of tree belt, stone walls and hedges fragment the land. The landscape of The Peak District, the place that inspires me.
I make prints and produce hand-built ceramics in my studio on the edge of the Derbyshire Peak District.
As a Printmaker, I have always been drawn towards more direct methods of working. I am constantly developing my practice by experimenting with combining print techniques. I mostly work with Screenprint, Monoprint/Monotype and Collage. As a result, my prints are seldom editions. I prefer to work intuitively, building layers of colour, texture and line.”
Louise regularly exhibits print and ceramics with galleries throughout the UK.
