VIEW WORKS

Overview

Kate Shooter’s approach to painting has always been process driven. A fast conversation between mark and response allowing subconscious narrative to bubble up through the layers. Works often hover in that liminal space between abstraction and figuration… “I came to the realisation some time ago that all my work is self-portrait. My compulsion to paint is really the need to make the interior exterior, to render as authentically as possible the experience of being human – more specifically me, through paint on surface.”

Kate studied Fine art at Howard Gardens Art School in Cardiff and then Wimbledon School of Art in London. Her practice is based in South Wales where she paints in her home studio in the black Mountains.
