Overview

Debra Sweeney BA (Hons)

Debra studied at Bournemouth College of Art and Design in Dorset and completed her fine art degree course at Ravensbourne College of Art and Design, Kent in the 1980’s.
Debra works with paper and has investigated it’s properties throughout her career, which ranges from dynamic colourful photographic abstractions in the 90’s to simple figure studies.

Initially Debra concentrated on Photography after graduating and became an associate of the Royal Photographic Society in 1991. The portfolio she submitted went on show in the Barbican Centre in London and in Bath at the Royal Photographic Society. Debra then embarked on travel photography for the Metropolis Group and was invited to do an exhibition for the Barbican Centre for their American Festival in 1998 following the publication of a New York Guide Book.

Debra then moved to Norway and it was here that she combined her two disciplines of art and photography. The resulting collages were showcased in a one-woman exhibition in the oil town of Stavanger in Southern Norway and also in Oslo exhibited alongside other expatriates work.

Debra then moved back to the UK to Salisbury and began to concentrate more on her portraiture and figure work. She exhibits throughout the UK.
