Clare Crouchman is a Cambridge artist who creates fine-art prints and mixed
media paintings.  She has an MA in both Ceramics and Fine Art Printmaking.
This new body of work builds upon these skills by exploring different mediums,
looking to find equivalents to the rich textural qualities found in these
processes.
Clare has always been inspired by the natural world.  Being out in the
landscape quietens the mind and accesses a contemplative part of the brain
where patterns and rhythms begin to emerge.  Fascination for the beauty of
the landscape has deepened in this way and finding order in this natural chaos
is explored through abstracted, non-linear patterns and mathematical forms.
These patterns are integral to her way of seeing the world.  They touch a chord
within that is primeval and meditative. Some of the earliest artworks are based
on symbols and geometric patterns.
Her prints combine the techniques of intaglio and relief printing with
techniques such as carborundum and collagraph often layering several plates
together. The paintings use mixed media including acrylics, collage and
drawing.
Clare has exhibited widely in the UK and abroad and has work included in
private and corporate collections in the UK, Europe, America and Japan.
