Overview

GUGGE RAVN, Danish

Born in 1974 into an artist family, both parents Danish painters, and started her creative journey as a child. She has always painted and have had exhibitions together with her parents since the age of 14 years old.

Alongside her art, Gugge Ravn holds a master’s degree in English literature and Art History from Copenhagen University. She did her final thesis on the rebellious English art movement The Pre-Raphaelites, a constant inspiration in her work. After finishing her degree, Gugge moved to London to paint and work and she also studied painting in Switzerland and Austria for a year in 2006.

In London Gugge attended oil painting courses at Central St. Martins and at St. Andrew’s Art School and The New School of Art, East Sussex. After spending 17 years in the UK, Gugge now lives in her native Denmark with her husband and two sons in a rural setting by a lake surrounded by lots of wild flowers, forest and animals, nature being a constant inspiration in her art.

Gugge Ravn paints expressive floral still life and women and her colours are vibrant and bright. She blends loose, spontaneous mark-making with more detailed textured elements. There is a great sense of life and inner wilderness in her way of painting. Gugge also works with collage and ceramics and has sold to many private art societies, private art collectors and is represented in both Danish and international galleries.
